Marrabaa Family Safety Project
(MFSP)

Community-led Education, Awareness & Collaboration on Family, Domestic & Sexual Violence

The Marrabaa Family Safety Project is a community-led initiative focused on raising awareness, building knowledge, and strengthening collaboration to address Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence (FDSV) in the Gunnedah region.

This project isn’t about case management or crisis response. It’s about education, prevention, and empowering community voices to lead change. By working together, we’re helping the Gunnedah community become safer, stronger, and more connected.

What is the Marrabaa Family Safety Project?

The project is focused on:

  • Creating a local Indigenous Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Community Plan

  • Co-designing a culturally safe service model that improves how FDSV services and support are delivered

  • Developing and delivering community workshops, events, and resources

  • Strengthening collaboration between community members, service providers and organisations

At the heart of Marrabaa is a commitment to cultural safety, community leadership, and lived experience. It’s about creating change that reflects the needs, values, and strengths of the Gunnedah community.

How we’re creating change

The Marrabaa Family Safety Project team is:

  • Hosting community workshops and co-design sessions to shape the local FDSV plan and service model

  • Developing culturally safe resources for families and individuals in our region

  • Running community activities and events to raise awareness of FDSV

  • Mapping local services and supports to make them easier to find and access

  • Building strong partnerships with local organisations and community groups

  • Encouraging open, safe conversations about family violence and healing

Marrabaa spreads the message that we are Gamilaraay Strong - strong in culture, strong in community, and strong in standing up for safety, respect, and healing.

We’re working on a range of local resources that will support individuals and families with information about FDSV. If you have ideas, or want to be part of the creative process, let us know.

We’re also looking for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to contribute artwork that reflects the strength and stories of our community.
