NPA Frontline Community Workers

Culturally Safe Support for Women and Children Experiencing Violence

Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation is proud to deliver a specialist Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) support service through the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence National Partnership Agreement (NPA).

This service is dedicated to supporting Aboriginal women and children impacted by violence—walking alongside them with compassion, care, and cultural safety.

We know that healing takes time. That’s why our team is here to listen, support, and help you take back control in your own time and in your own way.

How We Support You

Our frontline community workers offer:

  • ✅ Safety Planning – Helping you prepare to leave safely

  • ✅ Risk Assessments – Looking at immediate and long-term safety needs

  • ✅ Case Management – Support that fits your unique situation

  • ✅ Referrals and Linkages – Help with housing, counselling, legal aid, Centrelink and more

  • ✅ Information and Resources – Culturally relevant tools to guide your journey

  • ✅ Advocacy – We’ll stand with you in court, appointments, and system navigation

Our support is trauma-informed, confidential, and grounded in cultural understanding. We work in partnership with local and regional services to make sure you get the care and protection you need.

Legal and System Navigation

We know the justice system can be overwhelming. That’s why we walk with you through every step, including:

  • Applying for an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO)

  • Understanding your legal rights and court processes

  • Attending hearings and appointments

  • Making a report to police (if you choose)

  • Linking with legal aid or Aboriginal legal services

You don’t have to do it alone. We’ll make sure your voice is heard, your rights are respected, and your choices are supported.

A Safe Space to Heal

We understand the deep impact of violence—especially for Aboriginal women and families who may also be dealing with:

  • Generational trauma

  • Mistrust of systems or authorities

  • A lack of culturally safe services

At Gunida Gunyah, you’ll find a safe and respectful space where your story matters, your safety comes first, and your culture is honoured.

Just Have a Yarn

You don’t have to wait until things get worse. You can reach out for a yarn at any time—no pressure, no judgment. Whether you need help now or just want to talk things through, we’re here.

We can meet you at the Hub, come to you (if safe), or catch up somewhere you feel comfortable.
