Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation secures funding to deliver Aboriginal Women’s Wellbeing Retreats

Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation (GGAC) has proudly secured funding through the NSW Department of Communities and Justice’s Aboriginal Community Safety Grant Program to deliver two Aboriginal Women’s Wellbeing Retreats over the next 12 months.

 

Update: Following the success of the first retreat, we are pleased to announce our second retreat, to be held from Friday 10 April – Sunday 12 April 2026.

 

Nominations are now open.

These retreats are designed to provide Aboriginal women with a safe and nurturing environment to heal, connect, and grow stronger. Through cultural practices, wellbeing activities, and connection to Country, the retreats will promote recovery, resilience, and empowerment for women who have experienced or been impacted by trauma, domestic, family or sexual violence — whether past, present, or unspoken.

“Many Aboriginal women in our community carry the impacts of trauma, sometimes silently. This retreat is about creating a culturally safe space where women can connect with each other, restore their wellbeing, and find strength for the future,” said Stephanie Cameron, Gunida Gunyah's Organisational Services Officer / Chairperson.

Each retreat will accommodate up to 20 women, with all expenses covered including accommodation, meals, and transport. Aboriginal women aged 18 years and over from Gunnedah and surrounding areas are encouraged to apply.

​

​These retreats are facilitated by Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation and proudly funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.

Deadline to have nomination form back in is Friday 13th March. Successful applicants notified Monday 16th March.
