MARRABAA FAMILY SAFETY PROJECT

​Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation has launched the Marrabaa Family SafetyProject, a new initiative aimed at promoting family safety.

Shannon Calleia-Mann is an experienced professional with over six years of residency in the Gunnedah area. With a background in Out-of-Home Care (OOHC)as a caseworker, Shannon has actively engaged in the local community by participating in events and building strong relationships with community members. Shannon is dedicated to fostering connections and contributing to community initiatives.

 
 
 
Alarnah Field is a proud Gomeroi woman with strong ties to her family and the Gunnedah community. She has lived in Gunnedah her entire life, attending schoollocally and working at McDonald's as a barista from the age of 16 to 24. Alarnah later pursued a Certificate III in Beauty Services and worked at a local beauty salon. She is a mother of two children who attend school and daycare in town. With he rlong-standing connections in the community, Alarnah is well-known and respected by its members.

The Marrabaa Family Safety Project is dedicated to enhancing Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence (FDSV) services, programs, and activities in the local region. This initiative involves close collaboration with the local community and service providers to develop a local Indigenous Family,Domestic, and Sexual Violence Community Plan. Additionally, the project aims to refine a service model for the delivery of FDSV programs, services, and support.

A local Indigenous Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence Community Plan is a community-driven strategy designed to address and reduce violence within Indigenous communities. It focuses on culturally safe approaches, community engagement, and collaboration with local organisations to provide support, prevention, and intervention services that meet the unique needs of Indigenous people.

Getting involved in the Marrabaa Family Safety Project is an opportunity to contribute to the betterment of the community. By working together, we can strengthen community ties, improve collaboration with services, and ensure a strong support network for clients and families. Family,domestic, and sexual violence is a shared concern, and your involvement can help resource the community, empower individuals, and work toward eliminating violence.

LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN BECOME INVOLVED BY:

- Volunteer time and nominate for a position as a part of the advisory group
- Attend project workshops, events and activities
- Call or drop into the hub and have a yarn
- Create unique and exclusive artwork for the project
- Provide feedback, suggestions and ideas
- Tell us what works and what doesn’t


SERVICE PROVIDERS CAN BECOME INVOLVED BY:

- Represent your organisation and nominate for a position as a part of the advisory group
- Attend program events and activities
- Call or drop into the hub and have a yarn
- Provide feedback, suggestions and ideas
- Complete the Service Provider Mapping template
- Register to yarn with our project consultants Nama Julu
- Provide opportunities for collaboration. 

The Marrabaa Family Safety Project focuses on developing programs, services, and community resources. While we do not provide case management, we can refer you to internal or external support services as needed.


ADVISORY GROUP

The Advisory Group plays a crucial role in shaping our services and programs by providing expert input and culturally informed guidance. Members contribute to the development of documents and processes, monitor program progress, and ensure alignment with local needs. Although the deadline for nominations has passed, we may still accommodate committed and interested individuals. If you are passionate about contributing to our community and meet the eligibility criteria, we encourage you to reach out to discuss potential opportunities.





WORKSHOPS

We are organising a series of workshops during the co-design phase of the Marrabaa Family Safety Project. These workshops will provide community members and service providers with theopportunity to contribute their input and help shape the development of the community plan andservice model. All are welcome to attend, and catering will be provided.





RESOURCES

The Marrabaa Family Safety Project will create various resources to provide local individuals and families with information about Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence (FDSV). If you have ideasor input for the development of these community resources, please register to attend the workshops or share your thoughts with the project team.

ABORIGINAL ARTISTS 

We are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists to create unique artwork for our resources and Community Safety Plan. We welcome various art forms, including graphic design, digital art, painting, printmaking, or drawing. The artwork should represent the local community, be provided in both physical and digital formats,and be completed within agreed timelines.





ACTVITIES AND EVENTS 

Participate in a range of activities and events that raise awareness of Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence (FDSV). These activities include initiatives that educate the local community, raise awareness of FDSV, connect community members with service providers, foster social and cultural connections, and empower individuals and families. Stay updated on upcoming activities through the Gunida Gunyah Facebook page and email for activity flyers and posters.



SERVICE MAPPING


Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation invites all local service providers, community organizations, and groups offering programs, services, or support related to Family and Domestic Violence (FSDV), individual and family empowerment, and social, wellbeing, and cultural support, to participate in the Marrabaa Family Safety Project Service Mapping initiative. By completing the registration form, you will help create a valuable resource that enhances accessibility and connectivity across the region. Please return the completed form to admin@gunidagunyah.com.au. Your participation is essential to the success of this initiative and the overall benefit of our community.
