MIRRI YANAN YOUTH HUB

The Mirri Yanan Youth Hub was established in 2024 in the Gunida Gunyah Community Hub. This dedicated space serves as a hub for youth aged 12 to 24 years to engage in various programs and initiatives throughout the year, after school and during school holidays. The youth hub is well-equipped with a wide range of facilities and resources to cater to the needs of young individuals.

One of the key features of the youth hub is the air hockey table, which provides an exciting and engaging activity for youth. The table fosters teamwork and sportsmanship, allowing youth to bond and socialize while having a great time.

In addition to the air hockey table, the hub also features a foosball table, allowing young people to enjoy a classic game of skill and coordination. This provides a recreational outlet for youth and encourages healthy competition.

The youth hub is equipped with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo switch consoles. These popular gaming systems allow youth to unwind and engage in virtual adventures. The inclusion of gaming consoles caters to the interests of different age groups and ensures that there is something for everyone.

In addition to recreational facilities, the youth hub also includes a dedicated hangout space lounge. This space provides a comfortable environment for youth to relax and socialize. With a TV equipped with Netflix, the youth hub offers a range of entertainment options, allowing youth to unwind and enjoy their favorite shows and movies.

The youth hub serves as a valuable resource for young individuals seeking assistance with their homework, assignments, and job search activities. Equipped with tables and computers, this dedicated space fosters a conducive environment for productivity.

The Mirri Yanan Youth Hub is an initiative funded through the SEACEP project, delivered by Gunida Gunyah and funded through NSW Reconstructive Authority. This collaboration reflects Gunida Gunyah's commitment to empowering local Aboriginal youth.

The name Mirri Yanan, which means "shooting star," symbolizes the ambition of Gunida Gunyah to see local Aboriginal youth shine brightly and reach for the stars. It reflects their belief that every young person has the potential to excel in life and become a beacon of light in their communities.

The youth hub also provides resources for young individuals to access information about local services. Youth can consult with support staff for guidance and support on any issues that they may be facing. The hub aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment where youth can seek help, advice, and support from trusted professionals.
